No. Pages are copied into the new document exactly as they are: text stays selectable and images keep their original resolution. Merging is a structural operation, not a re-encode, which is why the result is normally about the same size as the inputs added together.

No fixed limit. The merge runs on your own hardware, so the practical ceiling is your device memory rather than a quota we set. Very large batches of scanned documents are the only case where you may need to work in two passes.
No, and this changed: merging used to run on our server and now runs entirely in your browser tab. Nothing is transmitted, nothing is stored, and there is no copy of your documents anywhere. It also means the old 25 MB per-file ceiling is gone, since it existed to protect the server rather than because the format needed it.
